With the baseball team in Cleveland finally changing its name, officially, to the Guardians, it’s time to start making the necessary physical adjustments.
One of the biggest? As in, literal size biggest? Taking down the 80-foot ‘Indians’ sign in left at Progressive Field:

The script, 80-feet-wide “Indians” atop the Progressive Field scoreboard is coming down today. It’ll be replaced by a “Guardians” sign prior to Opening Day. (And, presumably, the infield will be replaced by a roller derby track.) pic.twitter.com/C9hzbqAuA2

The roller derby joke there, in case you missed it, is a reference to the ongoing legal dispute about the name, ‘Cleveland Guardians,’ which was apparently already in use by a roller derby team in Cleveland. Whoops. And maybe the settlement will involve a ballpark time share!
Anyway, change is underway. It’s good change. And it’s appropriately timed, since it was five years ago today that Progressive Field was home to the greatest World Series clincher in baseball history. I choose to believe that Cleveland is celebrating the anniversary by turning over the keys to the Cubs.
